It's the twentyandhot.com competition I was doing month to month last year, which did win me lots of much needed free supplements. The closest I got to winning was 2nd place....which I am thrilled with, but as of today, I am in first, and really, really want to keep that first place spot!!
Soooooooo, if you can all do me a huge favor and go to the site www.twentyandhot.com and vote for me....all you have to do is once you are on that site, just go to the search button and type in Teri Mooney, and it will bring you right to my page. In order to vote, you have to register. And all that requires is for you to give them a valid e-mail address and come up with your own password. Don't worry, this is only to keep track of who is voting, you won't get any spam or e-mails from them! Now, you can vote once per day....everyday till the end of the month, then at the new month, the boards are cleared, and the contest starts all over again. If I win, I get lots of free supplements, and a chance to compete in the finals, which if I win that, I get sponsored by Champion Nutrition! How cool would that be?!?!?!
Anyway, if you could all be so kind and vote for me and give me a 10, each day that you have time, I would be forever greatful!!!!
Thanks so much guys.....
xoxoxo
Teri

Happy Monday....St. Patty's Day!

Well, it's St. Patty's Day, and I am sure you are all recovering from a crazy weekend, or are out tonight drinkin' some green beer....lol
Well, here is my next post following the news of my re-tore lis france tendon incident I told you about. Well, my surgery was July 25th 2007, and for the most part the rest of my summer was spent in a cast, on crutches, then into a soft cast, then a walking boot, and eventually once again, a sneaker! For those of you who don't know what a lis franc tendon tear/dislocation is....feel free to google it, cause it's too long to explain, and it just makes me sad telling the story over and over again.
Ok, enough about that! On Jan. 5th, 2008 I packed up my stuff, put my car on a flat bed, attached to a U-Haul truck and drove down to Florida with my two roommates. They drove me down, helped me unpack and then jumped on a plane back to Jersey.
I decided to move down here, cause I am persuing a good job opportunity as a head trainer at this gym called the Armory in Jupiter Florida. I was gettin' bored of my job and life back in Jersey, and decided to just get up and go, while I am still young and still had the guts to take a chance on moving and starting over. After my surgery and healing process, I really just needed to make a change.....so I did!! I also wanted the change of scenery and the beautiful weather that Florida offers! I found myself getting down and out during the winter months, and really felt that having warm weather year round, would be a positive change for me....and so far, the 3 months that I have been here, has proven my theory to be correct! Lemme tell ya.....wakin' up to sunshine and palm trees every morning, definitely puts me in an instant good mood, and a smile on my face!!
Now that I am pretty settled in, and getting used to the area & new people, I am going to start gettin' back on track with my website, doing more video's and picture's! I know Mike still has a ton of stuff that he hasn't posted yet, but I will be just increasing the library of new things for all my members to see!
As far as training is concerned....that too, is finally getting back on track! I will be keeping a journal of all my workout's, and if you guys are interested in what I'm doing, let me know, and I can post a few workouts that I have been doing!
Ok, I hope I didn't bore you too much.....so, until the next post......HAVE A GREAT ST. PATTY'S DAY AND BE SAFE!
XOXO
TERI

Well, I now reside in Florida, and will be living life to the fullest!

Ok, I know it has been way overdue for a blog entry, but please forgive me!!!! I had many major changes in my life, and had to take care of my day to day activities and wellness, before I actually had the chance to share it with you guys!! To fill you in....back in may, I had the horrendous news that I re-tore my lis-franc tendon....the injury that put me down back in 2005! To make a long and boring story short, I had yet another surgery on july 25th 2007, which was to re-attach, once again, my lis franc tendon, and to fuse a bunch of my metatarsal bones (bones on the top of your foot), along with 4 new screws to be placed in my foot. After that surgery, I was once again on crutches for 12 weeks, non-weightbering, and unable to work. I could have had plenty of time to play on the computer and answer e-mails, but unfortunately, I fell into a depression, where I felt the need to do nothing at all.....
untill the next post, if interested, I will continue to tell my story.....
xoxo
Teri Mooney
www.terimooney.xom

HEY SCOOTER!

HEY SCOOTER!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND POST.
IT MAKES ME SMILE TO KNOW THAT THEIR ARE SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ACTUALLY MISS ME!!!
XOXOXOXO
TERI

I'M BACK....HERE'S WHAT I HAVE BEEN UP TO!

I HAVE MISSED YOU ALL SO MUCH, BUT DRAMA HAS RULED!
WELL, SO YOU ALL KNOW, I HAVE RE-FRACTURED MY LIS FRANC TENDON AND HAVE BEEN DOWN AND OUT FOR QUITE A WHILE. WITH SURGERY, THE PAIN AND RECOVERY IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP UP WITH MY BLOGS, BUT NOW I AM READY TO ENTER THE REAL WORLD AGAIN!

TO GIVE YOU THE READERS DIGEST VERSION, I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PAIN IN MY FOOT....WALKING HURT, STANDING HURT, THEN ALL DAILY ACTIVITIES HURT, SO FINALLY I WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAD RE-FRACTURED A PREVIOUS INJURY, YOU KNOW, THE ONE THAT I HAD OPEREATED IN 2004. WELL, HELL, IT'S A GIFT THAT JUST KEEPS ON GIVING. AT ANY RATE, I HAD SURGERY AT THE END OF JULY, AND THE RECOVERY HAS BEEN....WELL...AWFUL! MY LEFT CALF HAS DWINDLED TO A MERE 13 INCHES FROM 151/2. SO RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN WORKING LIKE A MANIAC TO RETURN TO MY NORMAL PHYSIQUE. AFTER BEING IN A HARD CAST FOR 6 WEEKS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WEIGHT BEARING. IT MADE ME CRAZY NOT WALKING ON IT, BUT GOT THRU THAT PART AND WENT TO A SOFT CAST, A LITTLE BETTER, BUT STILL NON WEIGHT BEARING (TRY THAT FOR A DAY....SUCH FUN ON CRUTCHES...NOT).
FINALLY, AFTER 10 WEEKS, I AM NOW WEARING MY SNEAKY PETES...LOL, AND AS OF TODAY MY LEFT CALF IS NOW 14 INCHES (NOT BAD FOR 3 WEEKS OF FULL WEIGHT BEARING AND THERAPY).

I FEEL GOOD WITH THE EXCEPTION OF RAINY AND COLD DAYS WHEN I CAN ACTUALLY FEEL THE PLATES AND SCREWS IN MY FOOT, AND THE LACK OF MOVEMENT IN MY FOOT FROM THE FUSION OF 3 TARSAL BONES ON THE TOP OF MY FOOT. SO, AS YOU CAN SEE, I WAS NOT IGNORING YOU GUYS, RATHER I HAD SOME HEALING AND RECOVERY TO ATTEND TO FIRST :~)

BUT, ALL THAT ASIDE, LIFE HAS BEEN A REAL CHALLANGE TO REACH MY GOAL OF ENTERING THE PRO-FIGURE CONTESTS NEXT YEAR. BUT DARN IT....I'M GONNA DO IT. MY DOCTOR ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT NOW THAT MY BONES HAVE FUSED, AND WITH THE GREAT PLACEMENT OF THE PLATES AND SCREWS, MY FOOT WILL BE FINE AS LONG AS I DON'T DO HIGH IMPACT ACTIVITIES....LIKE MY OLD SELF, DOING CRAZY FLIPS AND JUMPS THAT I LOVED TO DO IN PRO-FITNESS.
OH WELL, AT THIS POINT I AM NOT COMPLAINING, RATHER, I JUST WANT TO GET MY BUTT BACK ON STAGE!

WELL, THE WEEKEND IS HERE AND NEXT WEEK I AM HEADED TO JUPITER FLORIDA (WHERE I AM SOON MOVING) FOR A MUCH NEEDED VACATION! I PROMISE I WILL UPDATE MY BLOG REGULARLY TO KEEP YOU INFORMED ON WHAT I AM UP TO!

LASTLY, IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE, GO VISIT THE WEBSITE
www.twentyandhot.com
CAUSE I HAVE ENTERED AN ON-LINE CONTEST WITH NEW PICTURES BEFORE I HAD MY SURGERY IN JULY.....AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I MADE IT TO THE FINALS WITH A WILD CARD VOTE FROM THE JUDGES!! IF YOU COULD, WILL YOU VOTE FOR ME??
YOU CAN VOTE FOR ME 1 TIME EACH DAY UNTILL THE END OF THE CONTEST WHICH IS THE LAST DAY OF DECEMBER. IT'S A MUCH NEEDED OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME THE SPOKES PERSON FOR CHAMPION NUTRITION, A COMPANY WHERE I BELIVE IN AND USE THEIR PRODUCTS.

JUST GO TO THE WEBSITE AND YOU CAN USE THE SEARCH BUTTON AND JUST PUT IN TERI MOONEY, AND MY PROFILE WILL COME UP! But, i do have a valid excuse and will explain to my fans what has been going on.

Well, first off, ever since i moved last December, i have been having ongoing problems with connecting and staying connected to the internet. It just so happens that i live in an area, where the two major cable companies I have to choose from, do not provide service to my area....and the only option i have is to get Direct TV....which, i want to do, but my landlord will not allow any of his tennants to get it, being that it is required to place a dish on top of the building! (which he says is an electrical hazzard with all the other wires going up and down our street and neighborhood). Anyway, the option that i have been using is verizon dsl, which has been ok, but not the best. Well, from December until about a month ago, I was sharing this service with my neighbor. Until recently, my neighbor, who i have had a disagreement with, has sporadically been turning off the wireless connection, making it very difficult for me to do webcam in the evenings, or to even attend to all my emails, and blog updates. Well, i only plan on being in the apartment i am in now for only another 2 months....(december is when my lease is up), so until then i will either get verizon to hook me up to my own connection, or just go over friends houses to do webcam a couple of nights a week. Last week i bought a new laptop, with a wireless card to be used anywhere, so atleast now i can return all emails during the day between my personal training clients, and when I go to the local coffee shops to catch up on much needed work!

Also, please take note and if you want to email me, send any comments or questions to this new address:
www.profitchic@yahoo.com
this new address is preferred, because of some of the problems mentioned earlier....but that's a whole other story....lol!
Thanks so much for your patience, and i hope all is well with everyone out there who still checks up on me!
xoxo
Teri

Happy Hump Day....8/23/06

well, well, well....lets see....what is new with me?
Well, since my last post, i told ya'll that i was gettin back on track and hittin the gym hard again.....and luckily, i stuck to my word. Last night, i teamed up with a friend and did a heavy chest and bicep workout, which i haven't done in ages!.....so, at first i was like....hmmmmm, where do i even start?
Well, we started off with db chest press and by the 3rd set i pushed out 8 reps with 40 lb dumbbells.....not so shabby if ya asked me...especially since my workouts usually consist of lighter weights and higher reps....
then we thu in some alternating dumbbell curls, which i maxed out with 25 lbs for about 8-10 reps.....
after that we did an incline chest press machine which i don't think really measured my true strength, cause the machine itself weighed a lot without putting the pin in the rack to add weight, but i did 40lbs for 10 reps for 3 sets. after that we did bent bar curls which my max weight was 65lbs for 8 reps......after that believe it or not, i was already starting to get sore, so we ended with heavy resistance band lower chest fly's and push-ups done on a squishy ab type ball...which works your core for balance as well as your chest for a great burn out ending exerecise. I also did heavy resistance band bicep curls to burn out my biceps in the end!

so, that was that, and today i must say i feel great, but my chest is sore to the touch....so getting changed and doing everyday simple things with my arms....was.....not so simple!

ok, i hope everyone is havin' a great week, and i will let you know how the rest of my training this week goes!
xoxo
Teri

gettin back on track!

hey everyone!
Well, its monday and after being sick last week and finding out that i am no longer able to compete in fitness, i finally decided to get off my lazy ass and start training hard again....heck, i still gotta look good and keep my muscles that i worked so hard for my whole life right?....RIGHT!.....So, today i did a full body workout, and by the end i was dead....a good dead, but pumped, and once again amped to get back on a routine. Hey, ya never know, maybe next season, I'll step on stage for a pro figure show, and suprise some of the peeps out there who have only said that my routine was excellent, but my physique needed work!....Now that i can no longer work on routines...which by the way took hours and hours of practice, choreography and stamina, i can put all my efforts into just training hard with weights and burnin' that fat off with cardio!
So, thats that, and wish me luck with stayin' motivated....cause these days, its been tough!
Just a heads up, I will be appearing on webcam tonight from about 11pm till midnite, so if ya wanna drop in and say hello, or pay for a private where you will see me flexin my muscles or doing challanges like push-ups, sit-ups or timed handstands, then definitely make it appoint to come see me!
Talk to all you guys later!
xoxo
Teri

Well, here's my newest update from the foot doctor!

Well, I hope everyone's weekend was better than mine!....of course, friday arrives...yahoo....thank god its friday..right?...wrong, after a long and heartbreaking week, I get home and start to feel shitty....Next thing ya know, saturday comes and yup....I got the flu, or some shit along those lines!....I am dizzy, congested, achy, and miserable!....so, there is not much to update you on, as far as my weekend went!....Although, there is one piece of sad news, that i am hating to announce, and still have a hard time typing or speaking of this news.
well...here it goes....I went to the foot doctor on tues. afternoon, and after a check-up, I went on to ask....naturally...so, when can i start jumping rope and flippin around and stuff so i can plan my next fitness show?....and Dr. Cohen (who by the way is one of the best foot dr.'s around, and has been working with the Philidelphia Eagles for many years) replied...."well, I don't recommend you to start that at any time soon!"...and naturally i said...."ok, well when?"....then he said...."uhmmm, never!?!"....and i said....."uhhhhmmmmm, whadaya mean never?"......and he said..."Well, Teri, as you know, what you did to your foot is the WORST thing you could possibly do to your foot. And working with athletes my whole career, mainly the Philidelphia Eagles, once this injury occurs (tearing of the Lis Franc Tendon), the athlete is well aware that his or her career as an athlete is pretty much over, as it is with your sport. Your foot, is also more unstable than most, even after the repair of your tendon, cause the front of your foot has a flat arch, where the back of your foot is pretty high, making it very difficult for even the best orthodics to prevent you from re-tearing your tendon with the high impact activity that pro-fitness competitions require!
Soooooo, I said, does that mean no more fitness competitions?.......DUUUUUHHHHHH!
Well, you guys get my point, i am still in absolute shock about this news, and am having a hard time digesting the fact that i am a retired Pro Fitness Athlete....so, my next question was....where do i go from here?....Well, Dr. Cohen did say that Pro Figure was ok, cause walking on stage in heels doing quater turns was not going to put me in harms way of re tearing my tendon (unless of course i had an incedent where someone tripped me or pushed me to fall and horribly twist my foot....hey, don't ginks me!)......

Well, that was tough enough for me to blog all of this today, so until my next blog....i hope all is well, and feel free to leave any comments!
xoxoxo
Teri Mooney

Happy Monday....july 17th!

hey everyone!
I hope all of you enjoyed this beautiful, yet hot weekend....well at least here in Jersey anyway!
Well, as for me, it was kinda a fun filled weekend, for once, where me and my boyfriend Ben went to Belmar....one of the jersey shores, to hang out with some friends. We got there Sat. night, unloaded our stuff at my friend jess's house, had a few drinks and headed out to one of the local Belmar bars called "Headliners".
Well, let me tell ya....at my old age of 32, and not being in the beach bar scene, i felt pretty old when lookin around at all the college kids drinking their "asses" off, if you will...lol! But that didn't stop me from havin my own fun with my man and all my friends. Silly me, forgot how quickly you can get drunk....especially after "chuggin a few" even before hittin the bar!....so, i guess an hour after our arrival at Headliners, all of a sudden....i started feelin "tipsy"...haha...and that was when the fun began....at least in my head...hahaha!
Well, to make a long story short, after a few more drinks at the club...(ontop of the two I had at Jess's house), I started to feel...(or at least imagined) that i was back in college like the rest of the crowd!
I felt like me and my friends were the hottest people in the bar...(yea right), and out of nowhere i grabbed my friends onto the dance floor and started to "tear it up"....literally, i may have taken tripped a few people and taken a few out, according to the way i was dancing.....hahaha!
Anyway, at the end of the night, me and my buds took a cab back to the house, unwinded, and laughed about the night out on the town.
The next morning, believe it or not, me and my boyfriend, were the first to wake up. At first, i expected to have the worst hangover and headache known to man kind, but oddly enough I was fine and only had the feeling of dehydration....which is much easier fixed than having a pounding headach or uneasy stomach!
So, being that we woke up first and the whole house was asleep, we got dressed and walked to the nearest diner and enjoyed a "not so healthy" breakfast.
The rest of the day was pretty much just layed back and open to do whatever we felt like. So, later in the day, me and Ben went for a walk on the boardwalk, got some grub, packed up our stuff and headed back home.
So, as you can see, all in all, my weekend was more typical of a college kid, rather than a fitness pro....but, isn't that ok every once and awhile?.....Gosh, as quickly as time passes these days, i just thank my lucky stars that i can still hang with the best of em'....even if they are 10 years younger than me....LOL!

Well, that was my weekend, and i hope that you had a glimpse of how "wild and crazy" I can be...haha!
Feel free to comment or post any messages on my board, cause that what my blog space is for.

Just a heads up, i will be appearing on webcam tomorrow night (Tues. July 18th sometime in the evening anywhere between 8-midnight)....come tomorrow, once i have a better idea on how my day is going, i will post my actual time on the webcam boards section under "Teri Mooney and Webcam"

Ok, well time for me to get a good nights rest for the first time in 3 days....so until next time....PEACE OUT MY FRIENDS!

TERI MOONEY

happy friday the 14th

Hey everyone!
I know its been awhile since i last posted an entry, but hey, i'm postin' one now, so I guess my "no post syndrome" has been fixed! Well, thats all fine and dandy, but i wasn't to arrive in the T.Caicos airport till 1pm.....ok...great.....BUT THE F*#*%* WEDDING WAS AT 10:30AM THAT MORNING!......SO DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM I HAD AT THIS POINT.....YUP, MY PRESENCE AT ELLEN'S AS HER MAID OF HONNOR WAS NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

well, to make this story much shorter, lets just say Ellen was as disappointed as I expected, cause she was just happy that i was still gonna come the next day. The gym I train ALL of my clients out of as an independent contractor, is called the Firm Fitness Center. Honestly, since I found the Firm, and was welcomed to train clients there for my business, with no hassles or complex rules, other than to have my clients join the gym for a low monthly fee, or buy packages of weekly visits , I have never even looked for another gym to train my clients! I have done some in home training sessions, and have worked a couple hours here and there at other local gyms to accommodate some of my clients, but the gym I call home is definitely The Firm! A few weeks back, I asked the owner Rick to write up a little “blurb” for my “blog”…(haha….i crack myself up….lol), along with a bit of history of the Firm, and this is what he gave me. (Oh, and when all of you are reading this, I swear I didn’t write this myself, to pump up my self-esteem, or to make myself seem important or anything, rather, I am just “bloging” the “blurb”, word for word given to me by Rick):
The Firm Fitness Center opened its doors on October 1st, 1995. Located in Crispin Square Shopping Center in Marlton NJ, The Firm has developed into the premier fitness facility in South Jersey. Owners Rick and Felicia Zurzolo have gathered together the best trainers, equipment, and instructors to provide the members with the ultimate workout experience.
What the Firm lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for in excitement, energy and experience. The addition of IFBB Fitness Professionals, Teri Mooney and Stacy Simons, have attracted an elite level of Fitness and Figure Competitors usually found in the larger metropolitan gyms.
The Firm Fitness Center is proud to be the training home of Teri Mooney, and wishes her the best of luck in her career.

Written by, Rick Zurzolo, owner of the Firm Fitness Center.

Well, thanks Rick for letting my fans know more about your gym and where I feel like home when training any of my clients!

Rick has also been so kind to let me do any of my video taping and photoshoots that need to be done for my website with any photographer that I choose. Mike Eckstut, from herbiceps.com is currently running my website, and luckily he only lives a few miles from the Firm, so I have the great advantage of getting a lot of new material for my new site.

If you have any questions regarding the Firm Fitness Center or about me as a trainer, feel free to post your questions under this blog entry, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Later this week is the conclusion of my First Olympia experience, my trip to vegas last week and more tid bits of what has been going on in my life!
Until then, take care and I hope to hear from you guys soon!
Xoxo
Teri Mooney

Here's some more of my background that you may be wondering about!

After qualifying for the Olympia by placing 4th at the GNC, getting the sliding qualification(which means the top 3 girls had already qualified for the O, giving me the last qualification for the fitness Olympia in 2004), I immediately continued with my contest training. Once I got home, I took about 1 or 2 days off from my strict diet and let my body heal a bit from all the hard training up until that point. I was still in shock, to tell you the truth about making it to the Fitness Olympia in my first year as a Pro. Honestly, back when I started fitness, my first goal was to turn pro, and my ultimate goal was to one day qualify for the Fitness Olympia before I retired. Of course, once I turned Pro, my dream was to qualify in my first year, but I truly thought that would be impossible with all the girls that were pro’s for more than a year and had the same drive, determination and talent that I had, with the same goal in mind. In my first year, I even did better than I ever expected, and couldn’t be happier with my placing’s at any of the shows that I competed in. To see my progress and placings in my shows, I wrote about that in my first blog for my website, so feel free to read that post to see how climbed my way up the ranks and qualified for the O! One thing that I may not have mentioned, that is worth mentioning, is that in my first pro show, which was the NY Pro show, placing 8th out of 23 girls…..I ended up winning the mandatory 45 second fitness routine with a perfect score! That feat in itself, was an accomplishment that I will never forget! Even though I didn’t do as well in the other 3 rounds, the fact that I nailed that routine and won it, gave me hope that I would one day step on the Olympia stage if I could make the appropriate changes to my physique and 2 minute routine for any of the other shows I would compete in.

So, getting to my first Olympia debut, looking back, it all seems like a whirlwind, and came and went faster than imagined. The whole year training for all the shows, the dieting, the endless hours practicing my routine, posing, cooking, mood swings..lol, and the other necessary daily activities that needed to be done from day to day with the lack of much needed energy came to an end upon the arrival and ending of Olympia weekend.
The whole weekend in Vegas was like a dream…..a big blur….I felt so weird going to all the meetings, seeing all my “fans”, sitting at the “meet the Olympians” banquet and all the other things that came with being in the Olympia.

In previous years that I attended the Olympia, I was there to work a booth, to see the show and meet all the pro’s myself, always getting nervous to approach any of them. But now, I was one of the pro’s competing in the Olympia, and people were walking around and waiting to meet me…..that in itself, was strange, and to be on the competitor side was something I had never imagined.
Ok, now to the actual show. In the morning we had the 45 second mandatory fitness routine round, the one piece round and the two piece round. As the way things usually go within this sport, and how callouts were concerned, I was pretty much right on track. Since I was the only U.S. rookie of the year, I really didn’t expect to make a mark, or wow the judges on the panel. Heck, I qualified in the very last show possible, and wasn’t even in the Olympia program, given to the spectators, due to the fact of my qualification so close to the Olympia itself….hence, the programs were basically printed out prior to my sliding qualification. It’s funny, I remember walking around the venue, and even sitting at the “meet the Olympians” banquet, hearing people say “ when did Teri qualify?…, I didn’t even know she qualified!” Well, even though many didn’t know I qualified, or even knew I was there, definitely knew who I was by the end of the weekend!
So, after the preliminaries, we, the athletes, had one more meeting to go over how the night show was to go, being that it was the first time ever that the fitness porttion was to be televised by pay-per-view. How exciting, I thought…this was my first Olympia, and the first time it was to be televised live! All of my friends back home were psyched for me and were even having “Olympia” parties back at home to watch me compete!….wow, to think my own friends were sittin’ and waitin’ back home to see me perform….what a crazy feeling!
Now, the whole weekend was goin’ great, and I looked the best I think, I have looked all year to date. But, the one thing that concerned me was a nagging pain that I had in my left hamstring. Throughout the year, my left hamstring had been tight, and giving me grief when practicing my routines. But, as any athlete would do, I just continued to stretch it, massage it, and ice it, as much as possible to keep the discomfort at a minimum.
Moving on with my story, and bringing you to the climax of my Olympia experience……
Now, do I have your attention? If not, then not to worry, my story is over for now….but If I do have your attention….good…..this is sort of like a soap opera…..you must wait until my next blog entry to see how this story unfolds and ends….until then, feel free to leave some comments or questions regarding what you may have heard, or thought, cause I love to fill in the gaps of the true story, to those of you who still have questions and enough heart to hear the whole truth from the source itself…..Me!

happy monday! how was everyone's weekend?

hey everyone!
just checkin in to say hello, and to see how everyone's weekend was! My mother actually used to tease me with the story that I would hang from the monkey bars and lift my legs up and down and eventually would attempt to hang myself upside down (with her spotting of course) and swing from my knees. Eventually when I was old enough, she wanted me to get involved in some sort of group lessons. I had the choices of ice-skating, ballet or gymnastics. I chose gymnastics.

Eventually I progressed into training with a private team called Head Over Heels, which I stayed with through my entire career. Then after joining the varsity gymnastics team at Red Bank Catholic High School, at the beginning of my freshman year, I hit a growth spirt, and went from being 5’1 and on the extremely petite end of the scale, to 5’4 and putting a lot of muscle on my frame. Mostly throughout my legs….which I soon learned to hate! Most of my teammates were very petite and had no problems staying that way throughout high school. I on the other hand, became very self-conscious and was always “dieting” and trying to lose weight. Looking back now, I laugh, because I would eat good/heathy for a few days, then eat a bunch of crap, with hopes that doing more drills in practice would melt away all the crap eaten on my secret pig out. Oh well, live and learn right? Ha! Even as a fitness professional, I still play food mind games with myself!

Towards the end of my high school gymnastics and private club career, I had decided to stop doing gymnastics due to being burned out and due to injuries that seemed to nag more and more as time went on. One of those injuries was a lower back injury, which drove me to a chiropractor who suggested after a few adjustments and treatments, that joining a local gym, possibly hiring a trainer and learning some exercises to strengthen my back as well as my core muscles to prevent future injuries would benefit me greatly. At first I was hesitant, because I didn’t know how to use any of the equipment and honestly felt overwhelmed once walking into a huge gym that was crawling with, in my eyes, were huge overdeveloped men that seemed very intimidating and unapproachable. And me, Ms. Shy, wanted nothing to do with asking anyone for help! Luckily, after a couple of days of manually reading each machine and trying to teach myself how to train properly, one the gym trainers took it upon themselves to approach me and show me around, while outlining a good beginner routine that met my personal needs.

To make a long story even longer…haha…once I started lifting, and following a regimented routine, I was hooked. Soon I was there 5 or 6 days a week, and before I knew it, my body started getting stronger and my lower back pain was gone! I guess my body adapted quickly, because of the 14 years of gymnastics training and hard drills I endured over those years along with intense competitions, summer camps and 4 x a week practices since the young age of 4! I also found that exercising, also helped to relieve stress, and for me, going to the gym was my “escape”.

The summer before I left for college, getting in better shape and going to the gym almost became an obsession. I started reading all the top fitness and bodybuilding magazines and began to follow all the top professionals of the sport. I even went to a Fitness expedition and bodybuilding show with a few friends from the gym and met a lot of the pro bodybuilders and fitness girls. I got to speak with some of them at their booths, and even got to take tons of pictures with them, which to me at the age of 17 was a huge deal….heck, before that day, I only got to read articles about them in magazines. That was the day I realized this was something I wanted to do myself.

I attended the University of Delaware, graduating with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. During those 4 years, I found a gym called High Energy and started personal training clients and teaching aerobics. My sophomore year, I joined a second gym a few miles further called Gold’s Gym. It was then I met this guy Freddy Smalls. One day he approached me while I was going through my workout and blatently said “wow, you have a great physique….you should consider competing. Well, Freddy had to say nothing else. I found out that he had just started training clients there, and made an appointment with him to find out how to go about this competition thing.

Well, I knew that I did not want to do bodybuilding, because I personally never found it that attractive, and could not ever see myself flexing my muscles on stage in front of hundreds of strangers, let alone as a joke for the fun of it…..i would always break down laughing doing the famous crab pose making a grimacing face! I had nothing against any woman that did it, heck, I have a lot of female bodybuilder friends, rather, it just wasn’t for me. So, for the sake of getting involved with competitions, fitness was the natural choice for me, especially with my extensive gymnastics background, along with the fact that I loved to perform routines choreographed to music. Freddy was my trainer for the next three and a half years. He taught me a lot and pushed me mentally and physicallyto the best of my ability. I’ll always be grateful for his help, along with his ability to keep me focused. He was there through times that I thought I wanted to sabotage my diet, when I actually did sabotage my diet, when I wanted to goof off as all college kids did and even when I thought I could never be as good as the top pro’s and wanted to quit. To this day, he is a great friend and awesome trainer. We still stay in touch, and owning his own personal training company called Above and Beyond Physiques, he is still training many bodybuilders, figure and fitness girls, while competing as a phenomenal bodybuilder himself in the NPC.

My amateur years lasted up until 2003. Those were tough years, cause the judges always were telling me to tone down my muscle and or to tighten up. From being a gymnast, my legs seemed to always overpower the rest of my body. On the other hand, my routines were always scored very high, and I had the judges attention every time I competed, as well as the audience! To me, that is why I competed and continued to compete. Performing on stage was and still is the biggest thrill for me. My strengths were and still are the tumbling, and strength moves. My weaknesses are and still remain to be in the dance/hip-hop department. Luckily along the way I met Stacy Simons, who is also currently an IFBB pro. She helped me the last year leading up to winning my pro card. She is now not only my choreographer, but now a very dear friend.

I won my pro card in August at the 2003 Team Universe Championships in NY at the Tribecca Performing Arts Center. I won the medium class and the overall. Not only that, but oddly enough, I received perfect scores in all 3 rounds. What a day that was! I’ll never forget the feeling of accomplishment and excitement that I felt on that day!

So, skipping over some time and to update you to present day, this is how my first year as a pro fitness competitor went:

1st pro show I did was the NY pro in March 2004 and placed 8th out of 23 girls

2nd pro show was the South west in August and I placed 6th out of 26 girls

3rd and final pro show was the GNC in September and I placed 4th out of 31 girls.

Now, going into the GNC show of strength my goal was to place in the top 12, cause that was the only show where money was awarded to the top 12. After the long routine round, all the girls were on stage for the awards. Once they got to 6th place, which was awarded to Debbie C., I basically wrote off my placing of top 6. Well, luck must have been on my side that day, cause in the end, as the awards were given out, 5th place then went to Julie Palmer, and then they announced my name for 4th place! I at the time, didn’t even react, cause it didn’t sink in. Then, one of the girls nudged me on the arm and said…that’s you! I covered my mouth and started shaking, while walking to the front of the stage to receive my award. I was shoked, and kept motioning to the judged….ME? Me?....and was in total disbelief! My goal of top 12 was over and above surpassed with this placing and I was thrilled.

At that point, I still didn’t realize that I qualified for the Olympia, because all I knew was that the top 3 in each show qualified…..not knowing that if the top three were already qualified, then 4th place got to go.

We then filed off stage and I was walking to get changed, Jim Manion approached me and said “Mooney, your in the O!”

So, my 4th and final competition of the year was the Fitness Olympia in October of 2004, which I placed 14th.

The Olympia was a wonderful experience, and if I never compete or qualify for it again, I reached my ultimate goal that year. In my career as a fitness competitor, I set small goals to meet. Once each goal was met, I set an ultimate goal, which I thought was impossible. That goal was to try and qualify for the Olympia in my first year as a pro. My secondary goal was to one day, before I retired to qualify for the Olympia. So, as you can see, my ultimate goal that I set for myself was reached, and I couldn’t be happier!

Unfortunatley there have been two injuries that have occurred from the time of the Olympia and today, the present time. However…… I’LL BE BACK.

TEST

TEST TEST
